Motivational Mondays

I LOVE inspirational quotes, words from those who’ve made the journey and have insights to share.  So Mondays will be my day to share them here on the blog (though I’m not saying they won’t creep in on other days, too!)

This one is from the Advice to Writers site, which I recommend highly – you can find them here and on Twitter here.

Happy Monday, and happy writing this week!

“The most important thing is you can’t write what you wouldn’t read for pleasure. It’s a mistake to analyze the market thinking you can write whatever is hot. You can’t say you’re going to write romance when you don’t even like it. You need to write what you would read if you expect anybody else to read it.
And you have to be driven. You have to have the three D’s: drive, discipline and desire. If you’re missing any one of those three, you can have all the talent in the world, but it’s going to be really hard to get anything done.”

BIG NEWS!

I am excited to announce that my first novel, “Fate Cuts Both Ways,” will be published by Tree District Books later this year!

I am very excited to be working with them, and looking forward to awesome things happening!

“Fate Cuts Both Ways” will be available from them this fall (September) in ebook form, and hopefully in paperback form very soon after that. Please follow this page for updates as this journey unfolds!

The First Sentence

You expect far too much of a first sentence. Think of it as analogous to a good country breakfast: what we want is something simple, but nourishing to the imagination. Hold the philosophy, hold the adjectives, just give us a plain subject and verb and perhaps a wholesome, nonfattening adverb or two.
